The Rules

The following guidelines must be adhered to for legal nomination submissions.
  • Only content that is primarily focused on Magic: The Gathering gameplay and products will be considered.
  • Only content that was published during 2019 will be considered, unless otherwise noted below.  All prior content should not be weighed during the nomination or voting periods.
  • Content Creators who are nominated may decline the nomination at which point they will be removed from the voting process.
  • Any attempt to alter the outcome of the nominations or voting through coercion or through any type of manipulation will render both the source of the manipulation or coercion as well as the target of the act ineligible to participate.  This will be handled on a case by case basis.
  • In case of a tie in voting, the nominations will be submitted to an outside party and will be judged specifically on their professional quality.
  • Content that violates the Wizards of the Coast's Code of Conduct will not be eligible. Code of Conduct
  • Content Creators currently under or who have been awarded a DCI suspension during the competition year are not eligible to participate. Current Suspension List
  • Any content that is deemed to participate in or encourage bullying of individuals is ineligible.
  • There is no age restriction for participation, but content creators under the age of 16 are encouraged to have their parent or guardian contact mtgstrategist@gmail.com if they have any questions regarding the award program.
  • JJ Freeze (mtgstrategist) is not eligible to be nominated in any category and has sole discretion to change any portion of this competition or remove candidates and/or voters. 
MTG Content Creator of the Year
1. Best New MTG Content Creator and Content Creator of the Year are mutually exclusive.
2. Must have been in publication for no less than 12 months during the competition year.

Best New MTG Content Creator
1. Must have begun publishing content between November of the previous year to December of the current year (i.e. this year's awards: November 2018 to December 2019).  This is dated from the publication of their first content.
2. Must have consistently posted content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).
3. Name alterations will be considered as the same content creator.

Best MTG Blog or Website

1. Must have been in publication for no less than 12 months during the competition year.
2. Must have consistently posted content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).

Best MTG YouTube Channel (Large Audience)

1. Must have been in publication for no less than 12 months during the competition year.
2. Must have 15000 subscribers or more.
3. Must have consistently posted content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).

Best MTG YouTube Channel (Medium Audience)

1. Must have been in publication for no less than 12 months during the competition year.
2. Must have less than 15000 subscribers but more than 3000.
3. Must have consistently posted content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).

Best MTG YouTube Channel (Small Audience)

1. Must have been in publication for no less than 12 months during the competition year.
2. Must have 3000 or less subscribers.
3. Must have consistently posted content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).

Best MTG Streamer (Large Audience)

1. Must have been in publication for no less than 12 months during the competition year.
2. Must have 15000 followers or more.
3. Must have consistently streamed content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).

Best Streamer (Medium Audience)

1. Must have been in publication for no less than 12 months during the competition year.
2. Must have less than 15000 followers but more than 3000.
3. Must have consistently streamed content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).

Best MTG Streamer (Small Audience)

1. Must have been in publication for no less than 12 months during the competition year.
2. Must have 3000 or less followers.
3. Must have consistently streamed content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).

People's Choice Award

1. Must have been in publication for no less than 12 months during the competition year.
2. Must have consistently posted content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).

Best MTG Video (single video)

1. Must be from a video published during the competition year.

Best MTG Podcast (Large Audience)

1. Must be from a podcast published during the competition year.

2. Must have consistently posted content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).
3. Must have an audience of 15000 followers/subscribers or more.

Best MTG Podcast (Medium Audience)

1. Must be a podcast published during the competition year.
2. Must have consistently posted content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).
3. Must have an audience of less than 15000 followers/subscribers and more than 3000 followers/subscribers.

Best MTG Podcast (Small Audience)

1. Must be a podcast published during the competition year.
2. Must have consistently posted content at a minimum of 2 times per month (average).
3. Must have an audience of less than 3000 followers/subscribers.


Best MTG Article (single article)

1. Must be from a article published during the competition year.

Best MTG Artist (After Market)

1. Must not be employed by Wizards of the Coast as an artist.
2. Must have produced artistic renderings, whether individual works or alterations, based on Magic: the Gathering products or lore within the competition year.

Best MTG Artist (Market)

1. Must be or have been employed or contracted by Wizards of the Coast as an artist.
2. Must have produced art for Magic: the Gathering products within the competition year.
3. Must have produced a significant body of work for Magic: the Gathering products.

Best MTG Writer

1. Must be a writer who consistently publishes articles about Magic: the Gathering a minimum of 2 times per month (average) within the competition year.
2. This category includes only journalistic articles.

Best Cosplay

1. Must have participated in a Magic: the Gathering event while in costume.  Evidence of participation may be requested if nominated.
